Satoshi to BTC and USD table
| Satoshis | Bitcoin | Value |
|---|
This satoshi calculator converts sats to BTC, BTC to sats, and both to US dollars, euros, pounds or Czech koruna at the live Bitcoin price. Type in any of the three boxes and the other two update instantly. One bitcoin is always exactly 100,000,000 satoshis, so the BTC conversion never changes. Only the money value moves with the market.
How to use the satoshi calculator
- Type a number of sats to see what it equals in BTC and in money. For example, enter 21000 to see the value of 21,000 sats.
- Or type an amount of BTC, such as 0.0005, to get the number of satoshis.
- Or type a money amount to find how many sats it buys, which is handy before a small purchase or a weekly buy.
- Pick a currency (USD, EUR, GBP or CZK). The price box fills in with the live Bitcoin price from CoinGecko.
- Change the price to test a “what if”: type 150000 to see what your sats would be worth at $150,000 per BTC. Tap Live price to go back to the market price.
How satoshis are calculated
The formulas are simple, because the number of sats in a bitcoin is fixed by the protocol:
- Sats = BTC × 100,000,000
- BTC = sats ÷ 100,000,000
- Value = sats ÷ 100,000,000 × Bitcoin price
- Sats per $1 = 100,000,000 ÷ Bitcoin price
Worked example. Say Bitcoin trades at $112,400 and you want to buy $25 worth. $25 ÷ $112,400 × 100,000,000 = 22,241.99, so about 22,242 sats (0.00022242 BTC). At that price one satoshi is worth about $0.0011, and one dollar buys about 890 sats. With a rounder price of $100,000 per BTC, the numbers are easy to check by hand: 1 sat = $0.001, $1 = 1,000 sats, and 250,000 sats = 0.0025 BTC = $250.
Bitcoin units at a glance
| Unit | In BTC | In sats |
|---|---|---|
| Bitcoin (BTC) | 1 | 100,000,000 |
| Millibitcoin (mBTC) | 0.001 | 100,000 |
| Microbitcoin (μBTC, “bit”) | 0.000001 | 100 |
| Satoshi (sat) | 0.00000001 | 1 |
| Millisatoshi (msat, Lightning only) | 0.00000000001 | 0.001 |
Why people count in sats
With one bitcoin priced in six figures, most people will never own a whole coin, and amounts like 0.00004 BTC are hard to read. Counting in sats turns that into 4,000 sats, a whole number that is easier to compare and remember. That is why Lightning wallets, tipping apps and many exchanges show balances in sats, and why “stacking sats” became shorthand for buying small amounts of Bitcoin on a regular schedule.
The sats per dollar figure is also a quick way to read the market. When the Bitcoin price rises, each dollar buys fewer sats. When it falls, the same dollar buys more. If you buy a fixed amount every week, watching this number shows how much Bitcoin each purchase actually adds. To see how much a past purchase has gained or lost, use the crypto profit calculator.
Frequently asked questions
How many satoshis are in 1 Bitcoin?
Exactly 100,000,000 (one hundred million). A satoshi is 0.00000001 BTC, the smallest unit recorded on the Bitcoin blockchain.
How many sats is $1?
Divide 100,000,000 by the current Bitcoin price in dollars. At $100,000 per BTC, $1 buys 1,000 sats. The calculator above shows the live figure under “Sats per $1”.
How much is 1 satoshi worth?
The Bitcoin price divided by 100,000,000. At $100,000 per BTC, one satoshi is worth $0.001, a tenth of a cent. The value changes with the Bitcoin price.
Can you send less than one satoshi?
Not on the Bitcoin blockchain, where one sat is the smallest amount. The Lightning Network tracks payments in millisatoshis (thousandths of a sat), but these are rounded to whole sats when a channel is settled on-chain.
Why is it called a satoshi?
The unit is named after Satoshi Nakamoto, the pseudonymous creator of Bitcoin. Early Bitcoin users adopted the name around 2010–2011, and it is now the standard term in wallets and exchanges.
