Bitcoin’s Recovery Seems Like a ‘Relief Rally’ Rather Than the Beginning of a New Bull Market, According to CryptoQuant

Bitcoin’s Recent Rebound: A Temporary Relief Rally or a New Trend?

Bitcoin’s recent rise above $73,000 on Thursday might evoke a sense of optimism among traders and investors. However, onchain data from CryptoQuant indicates that this surge is more likely a temporary "relief rally" rather than a signal of an impending bullish cycle for the cryptocurrency. Julio Moreno, the head of research at CryptoQuant, emphasizes that Bitcoin remains deeply entrenched in a bear market despite this price rally. Hence, the current price dynamics should be interpreted with caution.

Bear Market Confirmation

According to CryptoQuant’s insights, fundamental and technical indicators continue to reflect a bearish environment for Bitcoin. Moreno points out that recent price fluctuations should not mislead investors into thinking a new bullish cycle has begun. He underscores that many indicators still point to ongoing bear market conditions, suggesting this price increase is a minor recovery within a more extensive downturn. An understanding of this context is essential for market participants, as blindly following price trends can lead to significant financial risks.

Improving Demand Metrics

Interestingly, support for the recent price increase comes from a marked improvement in Bitcoin’s spot demand. Analysis shows that demand contraction, which stood at around -136,000 BTC at the beginning of 2026, has significantly narrowed to about -25,000 BTC. This reduction indicates that selling pressure has eased since early February, creating a more favorable environment for Bitcoin’s recent recovery. Additionally, demand among U.S. investors has shown notable strengthening. The Coinbase Bitcoin premium metric, which tracks buying behavior from American traders, has shifted dramatically, indicating a recent surge in buying activity.

Decreased Selling Pressure

One of the key factors supporting Bitcoin’s recent rebound is the decline in selling pressure from traders and long-term holders. According to Moreno, Bitcoin traders’ unrealized losses have reached levels reminiscent of July 2022, a historical point where traders are less inclined to liquidate their positions due to already substantial losses. This psychological adjustment among traders can help stabilize prices amid an uncertain market. Concurrently, the selling pace from long-term holders has dramatically slowed—plummeting from approximately 904,000 BTC on November 26, 2025, to around 276,000 BTC today. This decline signifies bullish tendencies among long-term investors, further aiding Bitcoin’s price.

Contextualizing the Broader Market Environment

Despite these encouraging signs, the overarching market landscape remains bearish. The Bitcoin Bull Score Index, a tool that evaluates fundamental and technical indicators, remains stuck at a low score of 10 out of 100. This persistence indicates that the market has not yet cultivated the conditions typically associated with a bullish cycle, instructing traders to remain skeptical about the longevity of the current rally. Understanding this broader context is essential for investors looking to navigate the complexities of the cryptocurrency market effectively.

Key Resistance Levels Ahead

Should Bitcoin’s price continue to ascend, traders should keep a close watch on upcoming resistance levels around $79,000 and $90,000. The first of these levels aligns with the lower threshold of traders’ onchain realized price, historically functioning as a resistance point during bear cycles. The $90,000 mark represents a broader realized price that previously served as a cap for early-year rallies. Both levels offer crucial insights into potential market behavior, and traders would benefit from incorporating these targets into their technical analysis.

Conclusion: Proceed with Caution

In summary, while Bitcoin’s rebound above $73,000 might appear promising, onchain data suggests it is more of a short-term relief rally within an ongoing bear market. With stubborn bearish indicators and newfound demand metrics, traders should approach this recent uptick with caution. By recognizing key resistance levels and monitoring market sentiment, investors can strategically navigate the cryptocurrency landscape while staying prepared for possible volatility. With Bitcoin currently trading at approximately $71,160—which has seen a decrease of nearly 3% over the past 24 hours—staying informed and cautious remains paramount in this dynamic market environment.

By understanding these complexities, traders can make more informed decisions, mitigating risks while capitalizing on potential opportunities in the ever-evolving world of cryptocurrency.
