Bernstein Projects 56% Upside for Figure Due to Tokenized Loan Growth Driving Significant Q3 Outperformance

Figure Technology Solutions: Riding the Wave of Tokenized Loan Growth

Figure Technology Solutions (FIGR) has made headlines recently following a stellar third-quarter performance that analysts from Bernstein have dubbed a "massive beat." With adjusted revenues of approximately $156 million, FIGR exceeded analysts’ expectations by 30%, significantly surpassing the consensus estimate of around $119 million. Such impressive financial metrics indicate not just growth, but a strategic positioning that resonates well with current market trends, particularly in the realm of blockchain technology.

Exceptional Revenue and Profit Growth

In addition to its top-line success, Figure’s adjusted EBITDA reached an estimated $86 million, which is 60% higher than the consensus forecast of roughly $54 million. The driving force behind these accomplishments has been the remarkable uptick in tokenized loan originations—especially in home equity lines of credit (HELOC). This segment alone contributed approximately $2.4 billion to the total $2.5 billion in loan originations for the quarter, showcasing a quarter-over-quarter growth of about 34%. Such results indicate Figure’s solid position as the leading independent non-bank HELOC originator in the United States.

Broadening Loan Categories

Beyond HELOCs, Figure has successfully ventured into newer categories that have added a substantial $80 million to its loan volume. These include crypto-backed loans, debt service coverage ratio loans, and small business loans. The diversification of its offerings is a significant move for the company, as it not only reduces reliance on a single segment but also opens up new revenue streams that could provide stability amidst fluctuating market conditions.

Tokenization as a Strategic Advantage

A cornerstone of Figure’s business model lies in its focus on partner-originated and tokenized loans, which constituted around 76% of total loan volume this past quarter. Within this framework, the Figure Connect marketplace has become increasingly significant, contributing almost 46% of all loan activity—an increase from 42% in the previous quarter. The growth in Connect volumes, which rose to roughly $1.1 billion, reflects not only the company’s successful trialing of its blockchain-based origination platform but also the broader trends toward tokenization in financial services.

Operational Efficiency and Profitability

The analysis from Bernstein highlights how Figure’s asset-light model has enabled it to generate profits effectively. As take rates on partner-branded loans increased, so did the EBITDA margins, climbing to nearly 55%. This efficiency stems partly from contained operating expenses, which grew at a slower rate than revenue, illustrating a coherent operational strategy that balances growth with profitability. Moreover, the expansion of Figure’s partner ecosystem—growing from about 170 to 246 active members in just one quarter—provides a robust foundation for future growth.

Long-term Growth Prospects

Despite its current success, analysts have noted that external factors such as declining interest rates and fluctuations in private credit cycles could potentially impact Figure’s performance moving forward. Nonetheless, Bernstein has reaffirmed its ‘outperform’ rating on Figure stock, setting a price target of $54, which implies a compelling upside from its recent closing price of $34.59. This optimistic outlook underscores the belief that structural growth in tokenized loan origination, especially through Figure Connect, is central to its long-term viability as a leading player in the fintech space.

Conclusion: A Promising Future Ahead

In a rapidly evolving financial landscape that increasingly leans towards digital solutions, Figure Technology Solutions stands as a strong proponent of innovation through tokenization. With its advances in home equity loans and the broadening of its offerings, the company appears well-positioned not just for immediate success, but for sustainable growth in the future. As the adoption of blockchain technology continues to gain traction in the financial services sector, Figure’s strategic maneuvers could solidify its status as a frontrunner in this transformative era.
