Bernstein Indicates Possible Bottom Ahead of Q1 Earnings for Coinbase, Robinhood, and Figure as Crypto Stocks Trade at Significant Discounts

The Current State of Crypto-Linked Equities: Insights and Future Outlook

In recent months, the market for crypto-linked equities has experienced significant volatility, prompting insights from analysts at Bernstein. Within the breadth of the drawdown, Bernstein asserts that many stocks tied to digital asset infrastructure—such as exchanges, brokerages, and tokenization platforms—are currently trading at substantial discounts. Valuations have plummeted approximately 60% from recent highs, fueled more by weak near-term sentiment than long-term growth prospects. As the market continues to evolve, it’s essential to understand these dynamics and their implications for investors.

Bernstein’s analysis indicates that while near-term sentiments are low, the underlying businesses in the crypto sector are still expanding robustly. Key markets such as stablecoins, derivatives, prediction markets, and tokenized real-world assets are gaining traction, countering the broader bearish sentiment. Bernstein predicts this weakness will extend through the first quarter’s earnings, but signals could emerge pointing to a potential bottom, suggesting cautious optimism for patient investors looking for recovery situations.

One of the analysts’ focal points is Coinbase (COIN), a leading name in the digital currency exchange market. Although Bernstein has downgraded its price target from $440 to $330, the firm maintains an outperform rating, believing that the earnings growth trajectory remains intact. They predict a remarkable 26% compound annual growth rate through 2027, attributing this largely to the stablecoin sector. Notably, Coinbase captures a significant share of Circle’s USDC revenue, creating a stable revenue stream that could mitigate headwinds from cyclical trading volatility.

Meanwhile, Robinhood Markets (HOOD) has also caught Bernstein’s attention, retaining an outperform rating but facing a revised price target of $130, down from $160. Despite a somewhat weak performance in both equity and crypto trading during the first quarter, Bernstein expects earnings to sustain a growth rate of approximately 25% by 2026. A crucial revenue driver for Robinhood is anticipated to be its emerging prediction markets, projected to account for about 10% of total revenue by 2026. This diversification away from solely trading revenues should provide resilience against crypto volatility.

Figure Technology Solutions (FIGR) stands out for its focus on blockchain-based tokenization, and Bernstein has maintained an outperform rating with a new target price of $67. With loan origination volumes expected to reach $12.8 billion by 2026, Figure is well-positioned for growth across tokenized assets, aided by innovative credit products and a robust marketplace. Their success demonstrates how companies can leverage technological advancements to provide financial solutions that are less sensitive to fluctuations in crypto markets.

Across the board, Bernstein’s outlook for crypto-linked equities highlights a soft first quarter ahead, largely driven by macroeconomic factors and prevailing market sentiment rather than basic structural challenges. The analysts argue that while current valuations may appear depressed, they have reset more swiftly than corresponding fundamentals might suggest. This perspective creates an intriguing landscape for investors willing to navigate the intricacies of the digital asset ecosystem and poised for potential rebounds thereafter.

In summary, the current environment may be tumultuous for crypto-linked equities; however, Bernstein’s insights offer a framework for value-seeking investors. By recognizing growth catalysts in segments like stablecoins, prediction markets, and tokenization, discerning market participants can capitalize on temporarily undervalued opportunities as the landscape stabilizes in the coming quarters. This intricate balance of risk and reward is central in navigating the evolving crypto market.
