Strategy Continues Bitcoin Investment: A Deep Dive into Their Recent Moves

In a bold move demonstrating their unwavering commitment to Bitcoin, Strategy has made another substantial purchase of the flagship cryptocurrency. With Bitcoin recently surging past the $90,000 mark, the acquisition comes at a pivotal moment, especially as stakeholders are eagerly awaiting the crucial MSCI decision next week. This decision will determine whether digital asset treasury companies like Strategy can remain included in MSCI’s global indices.

Recent Bitcoin Purchases

According to a recent SEC filing, Strategy acquired 1,286 BTC for a remarkable $116 million, translating to an average purchase price of approximately $88,568 per Bitcoin. This update follows their initial purchase of 3 BTC at the end of 2025, where they concluded the year with an average price of $88,210. Their more recent purchases occurred between January 1 and January 4, where they invested heavily, acquiring 1,283 BTC for $116 million at an average price of $90,391. This strategic accumulation has bolstered Strategy’s total Bitcoin holdings to 673,783 BTC, acquired at an aggregate cost of $50.55 billion, with an average purchase price of $75,026 per Bitcoin.

Funding Mechanism: MSTR Share Sales

Interestingly, Strategy funded these massive Bitcoin purchases exclusively through sales of its own stock, MSTR. The company sold nearly 2 million MSTR shares, yielding net proceeds of $312.2 million. This approach emphasizes Strategy’s aggressive investment strategy, leveraging its equity to gain significant exposure to Bitcoin as digital asset adoption continues to grow. Such funding methods are increasingly drawing attention as they reflect corporate strategies in an evolving financial landscape.

Michael Saylor’s Insights

Adding to the buzz around this ongoing Bitcoin investment, Strategy’s co-founder Michael Saylor recently hinted at another weekly buy on social media. He shared an update on the company’s Bitcoin portfolio in a Twitter post, prompting engagement with his followers through the metaphorical question, “Orange or Green?” This indicates not only a continuous accumulation approach but also a focus on engaging the cryptocurrency community, a critical aspect in bolstering confidence around Bitcoin investments.

Market Context: Bitcoin’s Resurgence

The latest purchase coincides with Bitcoin breaking above the $90,000 threshold, driven by various market dynamics, including geopolitical tensions like the U.S.-Venezuela conflict. As the cryptocurrency gained traction, it peaked at around $93,000 at the beginning of the year, reflecting a year-to-date gain of approximately 6%. This resurgence in value underscores the potential for Bitcoin as a store of value and has contributed to increased interest from institutional investors, including companies like Strategy.

Impact on Strategy’s Stock Performance

Evidently, Strategy’s proactive approach to accumulating Bitcoin has positively impacted its stock performance. Reports from Yahoo Finance show that Strategy’s stock is trading around $164, an uptick of more than 4% from last week’s close of $157. This stock increase can be attributed to investor optimism surrounding Bitcoin and the company’s strategic positioning in the digital asset market. As institutional buying continues, both the cryptocurrency and the associated equities are likely to see increased interest.

Upcoming MSCI Decision: Implications for Digital Assets

Looking forward, Strategy’s upcoming spotlight comes as the MSCI committee is set to decide whether companies dealing in digital assets, such as Strategy, will be classified as investment funds. This classification has significant implications; if Strategy is delisted from MSCI’s indices, JPMorgan analysts warn that it could result in up to $2.8 billion in outflows. Therefore, the outcome of this decision will be critical not only for Strategy but also for how digital asset treasury companies are viewed within the larger investment landscape, influencing both market dynamics and investor behaviors.

In conclusion, Strategy’s continuous investment in Bitcoin amidst a backdrop of fluctuating market conditions signals a strong belief in the cryptocurrency’s long-term value. As they navigate significant strategic decisions ahead, both the company and the cryptocurrency market as a whole will undoubtedly remain under close scrutiny from investors and analysts alike.
